All Apple Pay transactions are routed to card issuers for approval. If a payment card that you use with Apple Pay is declined, it can be based on a variety of factors or rules set by your card issuer. If you have questions about why your card is declined, contact your bank or card issuer.
To use Apple Pay you need a supported card from a participating card issuer. To check if your card is compatible with Apple Pay, contact your card issuer.
Common reasons for a declined Apple Pay transaction include:
- Bank Security Blocks: Your card issuer's fraud detection system may flag a purchase as unusual if it is a large amount, out-of-the-ordinary for your spending habits, or in a different location.
- Card Status & Limits: The linked credit or debit card is expired, locked by the bank, or has exceeded its daily/monthly spending limit.
- Insufficient Funds: There is not enough balance in your account or available credit on your card to cover the purchase.
- Billing Information Mismatch: The billing address or zip code associated with your Apple account does not match the information your bank has on file.
Please note that Ascend does not approve or reject transactions, these are passed from the merchant service provider.
